Eric Smith sets a National Record in 500 yard Prone

Firing in the 1st Registered match in the new "Midrange Prone" course of fire as a service member, Eric Smith earned his 3rd National record by firing a 199 with 13 X's at 500 yards on the new MR65 target.

The match was held at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club in South Phoenix, Arizona on New Years day. This was a sellout match with 30 shooters competing. He was shooting his RPA Quadlock rifle with the 6BRX barrel.

The conditions were, unfortunately not very good for visibility as a heavy haze was hanging over the city and the South facing range only made things worse. During the first few strings many couldn't see the bull on their target, it only improved marginally as the day went on. Obviously (as the picture shows) it wasn't an ideal scenario for record setting performances.

Here is a picture to show how bad the haze was.... yes, there are 8 targets up and "visible"!
