Eric Smith set his 2nd national record, this time for a service member shooting at 200 yards prone. The previous service record was a 198 with 11 X's set in 1995, He bested that with a 200 and 16 X's.
The match was held at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club in South Phoenix, Arizona on New Years eve. He was shooting his RPA Quadlock rifle stocked in a Robertson Composite "H&H" Stock with a Krieger 1 in 7.5 twist 6mm barrel. The chamber is a 6BRX chamber cut with a PTG reamer.
His load consisted of Lapua Cases, sparked by Winchester primers burning Varget powder. His bullets were Sierra 107's without moly.
His sights were Warner rear sight with an adjustable aperture, and the front sight is an RPA ladder holding a 22mm globe.
The conditions were great, with little wind. However, the range faces south and that caused some problems with the sun in the shooters eyes.
